Orange Socks and Thrown Squash

We harvested most of the winter squash yesterday. Earlier than planned, thanks to downy mildew and temps that dropped to the mid-40’s last night. Eating and storage quality suffer when squash gets colder than 50 degrees. Our winter squash field is beautiful – almost weed-free with lovely butternuts, delicata, pie pumpkins and a few other varieties.

Here’s how we do squash harvest at Moraine:

Come to the farm tomorrow, 9:00-11:30 for our First Saturday Volunteer morning. We will be having more fun then, maybe not squash tossing, but something fun! Let us know you are coming here – Saturday Volunteer Morning.
